Designation : Application Support Engineer

Job Description :

Operates a companys internal data communications systems, including LANs and/or WANs. Plans, designs and implements networked systems, including configurations, supporting/troubleshooting network problems and coordinating with vendors for installation of such items as routers, bridges, concentrators and switches. Works on project implementation. Provides training and assists with proposal writing. Conducts project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons.

The candidate will be responsible for change and problem management, application and configuration management and production support of strategic web-based applications on NT, Windows 2000/2003, and UNIX platforms. A considerable understanding of Thomson and West business processes, product lines, and internal and external customers is also preferred.

Essential Day to Day Roles & Responsibilities :
• Lead project initiatives as requested
• Act as customer interface into Eagan Data Center coordinating various projects as requested
• Provide mentoring and training for less experienced staff/new team members
• May provide direction to others within the team
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to group processes and technology solutions, i.e. monitoring standards, change/problem management
• Work with developers to implement applications into production and construct an on-going support model including
release/code and change management for maintaining the strategic environments (i.e. production, QA, etc.)
• Provide well-written documentation and serve as the technical contact on projects supported by group
• Provide problem management services by utilizing diagnostic and debugging tools to aid in troubleshooting efforts including 24×7 rotating pager support
• Coordinate the implementation of application monitoring, establish support documentation and provide training on products and procedures
• Provide developers technical assistance on the architecting, troubleshooting and performance tuning of the supported environment(s)
• As a Financial Responsibility provide input in the budget process

REQUIREMENTS:

Education : Four-year college degree, two-year technical college degree or equivalent work experience.

Required Skills :
Work independently on complex tasks with minimal technical and management guidance
• Excellent written and verbal communications
• Demonstrated ability to learn new platforms and technologies with a keen interest in expanding and applying this knowledge as new ones emerge
• Significant experience with a wide range of IT functions with a strong interest in application. support, tools, application integrity and overall systems configuration
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, challenging team environment
• Strong ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities
• Strong analytical, organization, multitasking and prioritization skills required
• Strong customer relationship management skills
• Independence to acquire and maintain technical skills for professional development.
• Demonstrated project management skills
• Organized and creative problem solving skills
• Willingness and enthusiasm to support a variety of applications, crossing multiple platforms, including providing 24×7 pager coverage on a rotating basis
• General knowledge of Thomson Reuters’ Data Center products is preferred

  • SUPERVISION: Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.
  • EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years experience. Some technical experience in an technical environment. Basic technical expertise on IT products and technologies. Basic knowledge of ITIL.
